By-election in Boalkhali Candidates are fighting, people are not interested in voting.

Boalkhali Upazila Chairman Nurul Alam died on December 20 last year. By-elections are being held in it. Rezaul Karim alias Raja Mia is the candidate of the boat in this election. BNP is not in the election. So Rezaul’s path can be said to be very smooth. But Shahzada SM Mizanur Rahman, the ‘rebel’ candidate of the same party, is challenging him.

Two independent candidates are alleging violation of election code of conduct against the supporters of the ruling party candidate. They have also complained to the returning officer.

Mizanur Rahman is the former campaign secretary of Upazila Awami League. He was also a municipal councillor. However, in the last municipal election two years ago, he lost to the then Member of Parliament Moshalem Uddin Ahmed. He was defeated by Tarekul Islam, a beggar of Moslem.

However, this time Mizanur Rahman did not seek party nomination. This time Rezaul Karim got candidature from Awami League against 11 nominations. He is 65 years old. Compared to that, independent candidate Mizanur is young. His symbol is pineapple. Kazi Ayesha Farzana is contesting as an independent. His symbol is prayer-pen.

There is not as much interest among the three candidates in the election as among the voters. And as many posters are visible in the upazila headquarters, there are not as many in the village. Some leaders and activists are seen campaigning in favor of boat candidate Rezaul in Jyeshtapura. The Chairman of Sreepur Kharandwip Union met there. With Mokarm.
