Chhatra League appeared in the student rights program to demand Daksu elections .

Dhaka University Central Student Council (DACSU) and Hall Sangsad elections were held in March 2019 after a long 28-year hiatus. The one-year term of those elected committees expired in 2020. After that, the university administration did not take the initiative of the election. Four years of the last election of Daksur was completed yesterday Saturday. On this occasion, Student Rights Parishad called for the election of all students including Daksu. Chhatra League occupied the place of that program earlier. Later, when the leaders and workers of the Parishad went to other places to hold the program, the leaders and workers of the Chhatra League appeared there with various ‘questions’.

The sit-in program for students’ rights in front of Daksu Bhavan was scheduled to begin at 3 pm today. But before the program, a group of BCL leaders started playing cricket with tamps and tennis balls. After receiving the news, the council decided to change the venue and hold the program at the foot of the Raju sculpture in the TSC area. Later, at 3:40 pm, the organization’s leaders and workers started the program there.

According to eyewitnesses, within a couple of minutes of the start of the student rights programme, Suryasen Hall Branch Chhatra League Joint General Secretary Munsi Rakib Hasan, Martyr Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall Branch Joint General Secretary Imam Hossain alias Jihad and Vijay Ekatar appeared in front of the Raju sculpture after leaving the game of cricket. Hall branch vice president Al Amin Islam aka Moon and Central Chhatra League’s recently former co-editor Noor Uddin Ahmed. All of them are followers of university branch Chhatra League president Mazharul Kabir and general secretary Tanveer Hasan.

Eyewitnesses said that when the President of Student Rights Bin Yamin Molla Raju started speaking at the statue, the BCL leaders and workers sat on motorcycles and started accusing the council leaders and workers of spreading lies and rumours. Also why are they spreading lies and rumours, keep asking that question again and again. However, Bin Yameen continued to speak.

The sit-in program for students’ rights in front of Daksu Bhavan was scheduled to begin at 3 pm today. But before the program, a group of BCL leaders started playing cricket with tamps and tennis balls. At one stage, Chhatra League leaders Munsi Rakib Hasan and Imam Hossain got down from the motorcycle and started talking to the journalists present. Rakib termed the journalists as ‘the reflection of the nation’s conscience’ and said, ‘Why are you not questioning them (student rights) about their lies?’ Each has a camp involvement.’

Some of the leaders and workers of the Chhatra League termed this program of student rights as drama. Bin Yamin continued to speak amid continuous ‘questions’ and mockery of BCL leaders and workers. In his speech, the president of student rights said, “We had a pre-announced program in front of Daksu Bhavan.” But BCL leaders occupied the place with weapons like stamps and bats. This proves that BCL does not want Daksu elections. To end terrorism and lewd politics, we want immediate election of all student councils including Daksu.

Akhtar Hossain, former social service secretary of Daksu and former president of Dhaka University branch of student rights, spoke after Bin Yamin. When his speech began, BCL leaders and workers moved away from Raju’s sculpture and took a position on the opposite side of the road. More leaders and workers of Chhatra League had already gathered there. In his speech, Akhtar demanded immediate Daksu and Hall elections. After Akhtar’s speech, the student rights leaders announced the end of the program and marched from TSC to Shahbagh. Student Rights General Secretary Ariful Islam, Dhaka University Branch General Secretary Ahnaf Saeed Khan and Joint General Secretary Nusrat Tabassum participated in the program.
